For the first time, the BMW X1 was presented in 2009, and 6 years later the Bavarian automaker introduced the second generation of the compact crossover, which received the factory index F48. In comparison with its predecessor, the car has become somewhat shorter, but noticeably increased in width and height.
The novelty gained noticeable popularity not only in the countries of the Old World, but also in Russia, where the car was especially liked by young people and the fairer sex. But the Bavarians decided not to stop there, and almost a year after the official debut of the standard version, they presented a special extended modification of the BMW X1, which received the prefix "L" in the name. True, it should be noted that the long-wheelbase version was developed exclusively for the domestic Chinese market, where the appearance of such versions of cars has long become commonplace.
Exterior BMW X1 L 2017
The appearance of the elongated X1 is fully consistent with that of the standard version. Moreover, the dimensions of the crossover have been increased so skillfully that, without a hint, only a few will be able to distinguish the new product from the regular version.
The frontal part of the body is made in the proprietary BMW-shnoy style, and in its design there is a clear resemblance to the older models of the company. In place are huge nostrils of a false radiator grille, frowning headlights and a massive front bumper, complemented by three sections of air intakes and neat round fog lights.
The knocked-down and swift profile is distinguished by inflated wheel arches, a window line rising to the stern, a falling roof and spectacular "splashes" on the sidewalls.
It is worth mentioning that, in comparison with the regular version, the elongated modification received more elongated rear doors, which made it possible to improve disembarkation and landing, and indicates a significant increase in free space in the rear row of seats.
The monumental stern delights the eye with complex LED taillights, a neat spoiler above the tailgate and a stylish sports diffuser with two trunks of the exhaust system.
The external dimensions of the novelty are:
- Length - 4.519 m (+ 80 mm);
- Width - 1,841 m (+ 20 mm);
- Height - 1.638 m (+ 40 mm).
The length of the wheelbase has also increased and is 2.75 m, but the height of the ground clearance has remained the same - 183 mm, which is enough for confident movement both in the city and on a suburban highway.
The choice of buyers is offered a wide range of body colors and wheel rim design options, which opens up good opportunities for personalizing the exterior. The crossover can be supported on the road by wheels with alloy wheels R17-19.

Once in the interior of the crossover, one immediately guesses that it belongs to the Bavarian brand. The driver's seat is equipped with an ideal cross-section and grip multifunction steering wheel, as well as an informative instrument cluster. It is also worth mentioning that buyers have access to several color options for the interior, some elements of which may overlap with the color of the car body.
The interior of the BMW X1 L is able to accommodate five passengers, but if previously only two adult riders could sit behind with maximum comfort, now three adults can easily accommodate here. By the way, due to the increase in the wheelbase, the increase in free space in the legs of the rear riders was 50 mm, while the free space can be even more if you move the rear sofa back.
The front seats have a perfect profile and excellent lateral and lumbar support, as well as heated and electrically adjustable (optional).
Between the seats of the first row is the central tunnel, on which the gearshift lever and the control washer for the iDrive system are hidden.
Despite the increase in external dimensions, the volume of the trunk in the standard state remained the same - 505 liters, and with the seats of the second row lowered (folded in a ratio of 40:20:40) it increased to 1650 liters (+100 liters). It is worth noting that as an option, you can order a folding passenger seat of the first row, which makes it easier to transport long items.

In the Chinese market, the BMW X1 Long Wheelbase is available with three petrol engines and one hybrid:
- First - a turbocharged 1.5-liter petrol engine with a capacity of 136 "mares" and 220 Nm of torque, available already at 1250 rpm. Both engines are paired with an advanced 8-speed automatic transmission, which allows the car to reach a maximum of 232 (235) km / h. Acceleration to the first hundred, depending on the engine power, varies within 6.5-7.4 seconds, and the average fuel consumption is 6.4-6.6 liters for every 100 km of track.
- Hybrid version of the BMW X1 Long Wheelbase 2017 represented by a 1.5-liter 136-horsepower turbo petrol engine and a 95-horsepower electric motor powered by lithium-ion batteries with a total capacity of 10.7 kW / h. With such an engine, the car is able to change the first hundred in 7.4 seconds. and consume about 2 l / 100 km in combined travel mode.
A choice of buyers is offered versions with front or all-wheel drive, with the junior engine available exclusively in mono-drive design, and the top-end one only with 4-wheel drive. The intermediate 192 hp motor can be equipped with any of the drives of your choice.
Recall that in Europe, the car is also available with turbodiesel engines, with a capacity of 150 to 231 hp. and an average fuel consumption in the range of 4.1-5 l / 100 km. The gearboxes are similar to the petrol versions.
The novelty is based on a new front-wheel drive bogie UKL, which assumes the presence of a transverse engine and the use of traditional MacPherson struts and a steel multi-link on the front and rear axles, respectively.
Despite the use of the new platform, the car boasts an ideal axle weight distribution (50 to 50), which positively affects the car's behavior both when driving in a straight line and when passing high-speed turns. The steering, as in the classic BMW X1, is supplemented by an electric booster with variable modes of operation, as well as ventilated "pancakes" of all wheels.
