According to preliminary data, 120 BMW X cars were damaged during transportation. All cars will be recycled.

Near Blair, South Carolina, a locomotive and wagon train carrying new BMW X Series vehicles crashed. As a result, 120 crossovers were smashed, while BMW indicates that there were only X-series cars, and these are SUVs and crossovers.

Most of these BMW cars (about 70%) were intended for sale outside the United States. Alas, none of the damaged cars will go further as intended, all 120 copies must be disposed of. Also, during the dismantling of debris and damaged equipment, rescuers pulled the equipment out of the cars by the roof, clinging to the excavator buckets. BMW representatives who went to the scene began to assess the damage caused by the accident. According to preliminary data, it is more than $ 1 million. These cars were produced by the BMW plant located in Spartanburg. It is not yet known for certain what the reason is for a large-scale and expensive accident for BMW. In this case, one can only assume that it was a malfunction of the roadways.

According to representatives of the Norfolk Southern company, which transported so many not cheap BMW cars, all cars were insured. In the near future, the manufacturer will receive compensation in full, but the details of the payment are also hushed up.

Locals say this is not the first time that trains on this section have derailed, and the reason remains unknown. Rumor has it that this is due to the constant movement of the ground under the rails, as a result of which the slope increases to one side. It remains only to speculate and expect what the result will be.
